Avios Redemption Changes - Same for Economy, Worse for First/Business

Yesterday, British Airways announced a substantial devaluation of their Avios program applicable April, 28th 2015. Both the earning and spending charts are modified. Basically, British Airways is rewarding premium travelers that are able to spend more money on Business/First and/or flexible fares. On the other hand, the lowest fare classes in Premium Economy and Economy will earn less Avios and Tier Points

In addition, "In line with other adjustments, the lowest priced economy seats (in fare classes Q, O and G) will collect 25% of Tier Points rather than 50%." - according to the BA Program Changes dedicated page.

Regarding the redemption rates, I have mixed feelings. British Airways is introducing an off-peak period, but all their Partner redemptions will be at the Peak rate. These changes mainly affect premium cabins that will need more Avios. The only good news is that the economy redemptions remain mostly unchanged if you are traveling during an off-peak period. Below is a summary of the changes I have highlighted.

In conclusion, I would advise my readers to book any planned awards before April, 28th 2015. In particular, for First/Business or peak Economy tickets using your Avios Miles. As a reminder British Airways allow you to book reward tickets up to 355 days in advance
